U.S. Pipe

U.S. Pipe & the Balls Johnson Dance Machine is bringing some serious Funk to the world. Founded in June of 2005 in Denver, Colorado, this Funk/Rock band is dedicated to laying down some serious old-school Funk reminiscent of the early '70s. With true respect for the old-school groove, the Pipe is delivering a fusion of new music that is sure to conjure nostalgia for long-time Funk fans, as well as inspire a new following of fans to continue Funk's rich history.
Founder and lead guitarist Chris "Citrus" Sauthoff joined George Clinton and the P-Funk Allstars as their stage manager in 1995, and since then had many opportunities to take the stage with them as a guitarist as well. Having learned from the legends of Funk through the years, he wanted to fulfill his own artistic vision as a musician, and thus began the Pipe project. Since their formation, the Pipe has performed at many prominent venues, such as Boulder's Fox Theatre and Denver's Oriental Theater. They have traveled to neighboring states, such as Wyoming, Idaho, Kansas, and Oklahoma, to spread the Funk across the Rocky Mountain Region and Midwest. In 2007, they performed at Diversafest, the Midwest's largest and most comprehensive music festival, alongside prestigious headlining acts The Flaming Lips and Leon Russell.
On February 24, 2007, U.S. Pipe & the Balls Johnson Dance Machine was honored to open for George Clinton and the P-Funk Allstars at Denver's Ogden Theatre. In March of 2007, Citrus officially resigned from the P-Funk camp to devote himself to the growth of the Pipe. With an eclectic group of musicians who comprise the core of the band, as well as special guests from the funk world, Citrus has been able to assemble a band he describes as "a smokin' dance machine that is sure to get the party started and people on their feet." You never know WHO might show up at a Pipe Party!
